Because I don't want a business. I don't mind people compensating me for what I do because it enables me to justify the time and money I put into it. But that's as far as it goes. I don't want my family to suffer - at least, not more than they do now when I have cookies all over the kitchen they can't eat. I don't want my writing to suffer either. These cookies take TIME! And finally, I enjoy this and I don't want to start hating it.
So, I'm not going to have a business. I'm going to do this as a hobby and enjoy my art.
And if you are feeling pressured to go into business, here are some simple steps to NOT having a business:
1) Never be good at anything crafty or yummy. Especially not both.
2) If you can't help yourself, keep it a secret.
3) If word gets out, charge extortionate prices.
4) Be very exclusive. Don't be a pleaser. (I've been told I am.) You don't always have to say yes!
4) If all else fails, repeat after me: "This is not a business; it's is a hobby. This is not a business; it's a hobby."
Now I just need to follow my own advice.
LOL. I enjoyed your post. You sure do beautiful cookies. Can I have a piece of your business... : )
